THE Mariners enter their third game in six days with a Bank Holiday Monday clash with Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park. Town will be in a confident mood with two victories on the bounce, against a Wycombe side who have had a decent start to the season.

The Opposition

Overview

Wycombe are managed by ex-Arsenal legend Tony Adams who took over at Adams Park (or the Causeway Stadium) last November. Unable to prevent Wycombe from relegation along with the Mariners, Adams now faces the task of an immediate return to Division Two. He, like Russell Slade has had a busy summer of arrivals and departures, and has a fairly thin squad at his disposal, already having to make three loan signings to make up the numbers.

Their Squad

Wycombe legend Keith Ryan has almost been at Wycombe as long as Town hero John McDermott. Signed from Berkhamsted in 1989, Ryan has gone on to play nearly 300 games for the Chairboys, under nine different managers. He has played every game so far this season for Wycombe, remaining ever important to them at the age of 34. Roger Johnson has been with Wycombe since 1998 and has featured this season in defence. Former Sheffield United and Fulham defender Gus Uhlenbeek (left) was sent off against Town last season when playing for Chesterfield - he joined Tony Adams side on a free transfer in the summer to add some steel to a defence that conceded 75 goals last season. Stuart Nethercott was on loan from Millwall for much of last season, and gave Wycombe a massive boost by signing permanently in the summer. Clint Easton has impressed since arriving from Norwich, whilst in attack, Ian Stonebridge has added some lower league experience by joining from last yearâ€™s Second Division Champions, Plymouth.

Key Player

Nathan Tyson (left) is undoubtedly a man for Town to keep an eye on for The Mariners. He joined from Reading for a nominal fee in March following a successful loan spell last season. He has already scored three this season, though his manager Tony Adams was not impressed with his display on Saturday, despite scoring and setting up a goal! Adams said that he was poor in their first half with Kidderminster, and he had to have a word with him about his effort. But 12 goals in 26 Wanderers appearances isnâ€™t a bad record though - so hopefully Town will catch him on a day when heâ€™s not trying very hard!

Andy Parkinson (knee), Michael Reddy (groin), Justin Whittle (back) and Simon Ramsden (neck) all played in the 2-0 win over Mansfield whilst carrying knocks. Ramsden, in particular, looks least likely to start the game after being unable to play the full 90 minutes on Saturday.

Thomas Pinault took a knock on his shin during Saturday's game and will have to be passed fit.

Graham Hockless may find himself on the bench after resuming full training this week.

Russell Slade is hoping to bring Tranmere striker Paul Robinson on loan to Blundell Park, but he is unlikely to play on Monday even if the deal is done in time.

In stark contrast to Town Wycombe manager Tony Adams has no injury worries, and is set to name an unchanged line-up from that which beat Kidderminster.

Head to Head

Town donâ€™t have a great record against Wycombe, in the few times they have met. The Mariners have only won once - that coming last season on Bank Holiday Monday, in a 3-1 win for the Mariners. Wycombe have enjoyed relative success against Town, with a 3-1 victory against Town in the FA Cup in 2001, that saw them reach the semi finals. They also thrashed the Mariners 4-1 at Adams Park in January of this year.

Iffy Onoura (left) played for both Wycombe and Town last season. Onoura played 6 games under Lawrie Sanchez for Wycombe at the start of last season, but just a week later then signed for Town after Wycombe decided not to retain him. He went on to make 18 appearances for the Mariners, scoring three goals

Last Meeting

Town will want to forget the last time they travelled to Wycombe, back in January, when they were thumped 4-1. Although Town fans may remember that trip, few Mariners players will, with only Greg Young, Darren Mansaram and John McDermott serviving from that team who were so badly beaten. Town went behind after only five minutes, but responded quickly, with Iffy Onoura scoring after 8 minutes. However, 20 minutes later Wycombe regained the lead through Jermaine McSporran and went on to win, with Luke Moore getting a hat trick.
