Rain Saves Chester

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 14/08/2005

IT was disappointing that so many Town fans travelled to Chester only to find the game had been called off due to weather conditions. If there is any consolation for this, it is that it gives those players with cuts and bruises time to recover.

It was fortuitous too for Chester, as according to Town fans, they were in for a right shellacking and who am I to argue with that.

Manager Russell Slade, who will probably be blamed, was disappointed too but felt the ref had no option.

"The ground staff have been working hard to try an get the game on. It would have meant that our supporters would have had to have been moved, and I think it was the right decision in the end," he said.

"The referee obviously wanted to get the game on, nobody wants to call a game off in the middle of August. For safety reasons it couldn't go ahead, we accepted that."

"I had a player that stayed down and he said that the rain had been relentless since 8 o'clock this morning. The rain has fallen on a firm pitch so obviously the rain has struggled to soak through."

Grim Rob, who spent 10 hours on his trip said; "Nobody's fault. One of those things. At least Reddy's groin gets a rest."

No date has been set for the re-arranged game yet.
