Town Handed Plum Draw

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/08/2005

THE Mariners will be rewarded for their win at Pride Park with a draw against one of 24 seeded teams in the Carling Cup. With the teams competing in Europe not to enter until the third round, there are still some big names in the draw including Villa, Spurs and Man City.

The list of seeded teams one of whom the Mariners will face is as follows

Aston Villa
Birmingham City
Blackburn Rovers
Burnley
Cardiff City
Charlton Athletic
Crystal Palace
Fulham
Leeds United
Leicester City
Manchester City
Millwall
Norwich City
Plymouth Argyle
Portsmouth
Reading
Sheffield United
Southampton
Sunderland
Tottenham Hotspur
West Bromwich Albion
West Ham United
Wigan Athletic
Wolverhampton Wanderers

With the Mariners getting half the gate reciepts - after costs - a Cup Run would also give their finances a timely boost, particularly from an away tie at a big Premiership club such as Man City

The draw for the Second Round will take place on Saturday morning and will be found on here shortly after it occurs.

The final of the Carling Cup takes place at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday, February 26 and the winner enters into the EUFA Cup.
