Beat the Bookies: Week 38

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 19/04/2006

RUSHDEN let Beat the Bookies down last week when they could only draw with Rochdale. Oh well, if Diamonds get relegated Beat the Bookies will win some money.

Home > 2005-2006 Season > Beat the Bookies > Week 38

There are only three matches that matter this weekend. Grimsby v Cheltenham, Lincoln v Leyton Orient and Oxford v Northampton. Arsenal v Tottenham? Forget it.

All three games are fascinatingly poised with a huge amount at stake for the six participating clubs. Grimsby, playing first, have to win, although it's not inconceivable that all three clubs could drop points. If I had to bet on it (and I do) I think Grimsby will win (4/5), Lincoln draw (9/4) and Northampton win (13/10). A Cheltenham away win bet365.com offer 3/1 for, which it has to be said is tempting, although the Robins' recent form is not fantastic (but neither is ours).

All said and done I don't feel confident about any of the three games and would gravitate towards draws simply because of the importance of the games. It was noticeable at Orient how both teams were relatively happy with a draw.

Of the three clubs Leyton Orient will be happiest with a draw because they know Grimsby and Northampton have yet to play each other. They have a decent defence and most of their games are low scoring. Expect another 0-0 at Sincil Bank.

RECOMMENDED BET OF THE WEEK:
Lincoln to draw with Leyton Orient (9/4)
