Rodger Could Be Next

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 31/05/2006

GRIMSBY Town assistant manager Graham Rodger could be next out of Blundell Park according to press reports from Somerset. Slade has been widely tipped to take over at Yeovil and according to a report in the Western Daily Press one of his conditions is that Rodger is to be his assistant.

With Yeovil insisting that Steve Thompson remains as their No. 2, the Somerset club have today delayed naming their new manager for a further 24 hours whilst further discussions take place.

Both Rodger and Slade's contracts at Blundell Park ended today and the pair are now free agents. The club have issued a statement today saying that Russell Slade's contract will not be renewed, but a decision still has to be taken on his assisstant. The pair had been widely expected to sign new contracts last week but circumstances mysteriously changed shortly before the play-off final.

Former Grimsby centre back Rodger has been at the club since 2000 on the coaching staff, and has been caretaker manager twice. Despite applying for the post of manager in 2004, Rodger was overlooked, with the GTFC board appointing Nicky Law in his place.

Should Rodger choose to apply again for the post of manager at Blundell Park he is likely to be a front-runner for the simple fact that he knows the players and the board know him.

In a further twist Russell Slade has also been tipped for the Northampton job after boss Colin Calderwood left the Cobblers to join Nottingham Forest.
