Key Signing |
Beagrie is the Lynchpin

THE arrival of Peter Beagrie at Blundell Park has certainly got the Mariners' supporters buzzing. Peter, who in the past played for Manchester City - the club I supported as a boy, and still do even now - to my mind has been a wonderful footballer and plays the game the way football should be played.

Beagrie with his ability to spray the ball all over the pitch, to bring other players into the game, and with his influence off the pitch especially in the dressing room could be just what the club need.
There will be a question mark against his fitness, or should I say his ability to play every week in the English League Two. It is a very demanding and physical league with very little football being played.
Hopefully this is the start of Graham Roger's football revolution. Graham has now got to try and get players who are eligible to go along with Beagrie`s style of football. I am quite certain that Graham will give Beagrie the licence to have a certain amount of say in the coaching and organisation of the football club, to be honest he would be foolish not to, the man has got a wealth of experience to pass on.
I was talking to Graham on Sunday at the Novartis Sporting facility where he presented the trophies to the winners of the Youth Association World Cup Knock Out Competition, and he hinted that he had some interesting signings coming into the club this week.
I suppose the Peter Beagrie signing will be a little controversial, after all there is no love lost between Scunthorpe & Grimsby supporters. The fact also that Peter has made some comments about Grimsby Town on Sky Television in recent years which have not been too complimentary, but it is all in the past, he is now a Mariners' player, and hopefully we will start playing football again.
This is my opinion, Beagrie must have got a assurance that the Mariners will have a policy of trying to play football rather than hoofing it down the middle, and that is why he has signed on the dotted line for the Mariners.
I think Graham still thinks we are a bit light regarding the numbers in the First Team squad, but I am sure that will change in the next few days, especially when he can judge the lads who are playing in the impending trial games.
To me the signing of Beagrie shows that the club want to start playing the beautiful game of football again, hopefully Beagrie will be allowed to have a big say in future signings at the club. I know you have got to get the balance right, but I certainly would not expect Peter Beagrie to play every game, but with his influence around the dressing room it could be a good signing for The Mariners
