Sestanovich Charged!

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 27/07/2006

FORMER Grimsby Town striker Ashley Sestanovich has been arrested and charged with conspiracy to rob. The temperamental wide player left Blundell Park in a cloud 18 months ago, and most recently signed for Essex club Grays Athletic, who today announced he has been sacked.

The offence is alleged to have taken place in Streatham on June 24, just days after Grays manager Frank Gray made him his first signing after joining the Conference League club.

Sestanovich, 24, of Streatham Road, London, appeared alongside former Farnborough Town team mate Carl Gibbs, 26, at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court last Wednesday - the day Grays faced Leyton Orient in a pre-season friendly, and 24 hours after he was formally charged.

A statement said: "The club were unaware of any problems prior to signing Ashley Sestanovich. Due to the seriousness of the incident, the club has terminated his contract."

Sestanovich is a talented but temperamental footballer who has been thrown out of every club he has been involved with: Sheff Utd, Grimsby, Chester and now Grays.

Stan's last game for the Mariners was a four minute substitute appearance against Northampton at Blundell Park, in which he was dismissed for foul and abusive language towards the referee. Had striker Michael Reddy not intervened, Sestanovich looked as though he were about to strike the official.

He later failed to show up in court in Grimsby to answer a speeding charge.
