"No disrespect to the likes of Grimsby..."

sunday 20th august

Dean Gordon

From icteesside

Dean Gordon explains why he is opening a shoe shop in Darlington:

"I had six months at Grimsby and, with no disrespect, felt I could have been playing at a higher level.

"Then I got this chance to go out to Cyprus and thoroughly enjoyed it."

Top of the League

From ITV's The Championship (18/09/2005)

"It's not often you can say Grimsby are top of the league."

Huddersfield

From The Huddersfield Daily Examiner

"Jackson, however, believes Town have the gameplan to cause an upset and join the likes of Grimsby Town and Gillingham in Saturday's third round draw - especially with 2,500 fans in full voice."

Chris Waddle

From the Sun

Chris Waddle reckons the time has come for sorry Spurs to shrug off their Carling Cup shame and prove they are up to the hype.

Martin Jol’s men crashed to an embarrassing 1-0 defeat at Grimsby on Tuesday.

It made a mockery of pre-season predictions they were about to gatecrash the top four.

SunSport columnist Waddle, who spent four years at Spurs, said: "Against Grimsby they had a lot of possession but lacked the cutting edge of Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester United.

"No disrespect to Grimsby, but I think Martin Jol has a point if he’s given them a roasting.

"It was a full-strength side, one that could easily play in the Premier League, and if Arsenal had sent the same you couldn't see them slipping up.

"There’s no excuse for going to a League Two side, even one on top of the table, and not getting a result."
