Macclesfield Player Ratings

By: Ryan Hudson
Date: 03/09/2006

GRIMSBY put in an improved first half performance against Macclesfield on Friday night. Unfortunately a lapse of concentration led to an equaliser and Town could not recapture their first half form.

Home > 2006-2007 Season > Player Ratings > Macclesfield (h)

Phil Barnes. Didn't have too much to do in the first half but he looks like he is improving after recent performances. The Silkmens' second half goal he couldn't do much about as a minute of quality from Macclesfield led to their goal. 6

Tom Newey. The first half seemed ok but it was easy for the former Orient defender as Macclesfield didn't threaten Phil Barnes in the first half. In the second half it did look like Newey got tired and started giving the ball away far too easily. 5

Gary Croft. Fantastic first half and he seemed to give the Mariners another option on the wing as he seemed to love getting forward. Ok second half but Rodger will be looking for Croft to produce another display like the first half. 7

Nick Fenton. Good start by Town's new signing and looks like he could be good in the air as well. Nick and McIntosh where linking up good at the back in the first half. 6

Martin McIntosh. Didn't have the same impact as his debut against Mansfield but worked hard with Fenton at the back. Could do a job for Town if he signs on for another month or so. 6

Ciaran Toner. Started off the game very well and opened the scoring for the penalty spot for the Mariners. Worked hard but didn't notice him in the second half much. 6

Paul Bolland. Worked his socks off all game and showed why he got man of the match. Tried to get in the positions and tried his best defending in the second period. If only all the players were like Bolly. 7

Peter Beagrie. Did well in the first half and came very close to opening his account later with a shot outside the area which was well saved by the Silkmen keeper. Was close to intercepting Macclesfield's cross which led to their goal. 6

Danny Boshell . Fantastic debut and put in a performance like Bolland all game. Came very close in the second half with a great header but once again was well saved by the Macclesfield keeper. Could be a great signing. 7

Michael Reddy. Did OK in the first half and his running was once again causing the Macclesfield defence problems, but then you could see that his niggling groin injury was affecting him so Rodger played safe and replaced him with Gary Jones in the second half. 6

Isaiah Rankin. Good game up front and he showed he likes to run at defenders and take it round them. Once again tried very hard but in the second half did not receive much support.
