Jim Lumby | 1973/74-1974/75 | 29 (3) | 12 goals |
Seemed to have so much potential when he burst onto the scene. Scored 9 goals in 16 games at the end of 73/4 season and everyone started talking about him being the next Kevin Keegan - or anyone in the top flight with a perm, which in those days wasn't unusual. Having said that I'm not sure if he ever had a perm, so maybe that's why it went wrong.
Unfortunately he found the next season harder and he was not persevered with as I felt he should have been. He drifted into non-league but returned with Scunny and Tranmere and had a good goalscoring record with them.
We should have kept him in my opinion but we were going through one of those somewhat too regular 'Town' periods where the obvious never happens and we replace players who look like they can make it with those who probably never should have been allowed over the touchline.
