Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Who Will Win?
Who Will Win?

September Player of the Month

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 02/10/2007

SEPTEMBER started badly with two league defeats sandwiched between a JPT cup win over Huddersfield. After the nadir of Accrington Stanley Grimsby gradually recovered and ended the month on a high with wins over Lincoln and Hereford.

The six players nominated by our readers for the September Player of the Month award, votes from which will count towards the eventual winner at the end of the season, are as follows:

Phil Barnes - Barnes has been rejuvenated this season and is gradually becoming a match winner for Town, which has often not the case last year. In September alone class saves in the Stockport, Lincoln and Hereford games probably earned Grimsby 3 or 4 points.

Paul Bolland - Bolland is a tireless runner in midfield, a strong tackler and scores a few goals too, including two in September.

Nick Fenton - Signed by Graham Rodger Fenton is a classy defender, comfortable on the ball, and good in the air at set pieces at both ends of the pitch.

James Hunt - Hunt is a defensive midfielder, Town's fifth man in the centre of the park in Alan Buckley's 4-5-1 formation. Covering a huge amount of ground, his strength is precision passing and providing a link between the defence and central midfield.

Tom Newey - After an indifferent start at Grimsby when he struggled with form and indiscipline, Newey has become a stalwart of the team. A solid defender as ever, Newey's strength this year has been his forward runs into the box and his set pieces.

Peter Till - An early signing by Alan Buckley Peter Till's form on the right side of midfield is keeping Peter Bore out of the side. On his day Till is one of Grimsby's most exciting and dangerous players. Scored in the cup game against Huddersfield.

Pleas vote using Question of the Week.
