Beat the Bookies: Week 21

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 12/12/2006

WITH both tips winning last weekend, it was a lucrative period for Beat the Bookies, which has advanced well into profit for the year.

Grimsby face the tough trip to Lincoln, who are stong favourites to beat the Mariners this weekend, even though the Imps have fallen back a little in recent matches - they have lost 4 out of 5 games. Town in comparison are flying, and are unbeaten in the League since the return of former Lincoln boss Alan Buckley to Blundell Park. You can get cracking odds of 3/1 with Betfred for a Town win, Evens for a Lincoln win, and 9/4 for the draw.

Elsewhere in League Two Barnet should beat Mansfield at home (6/5). I said last week they were better than their league placing, and the Bees went and got a draw at Wycombe. Mansfield are hopeless away from home at the moment, and Barnet should get the spoils from this game.

Macclesfield are a real banker to overcome out-of-form Accrington Stanley at Moss Rose (11/10). Paul Ince has turned things around for the Silkmen, who have put together a commendable run and have won their last two league games. Stanley, in comparison, are dropping like a stone down the league, and are one of the worst sides Town have played this season. Boston could come away with all three points at Torquay, who the Pilgrims moved above at the weekend when they emerged from the relegation places following a 4-0 drubbing of the unpredictable Wrexham at home. You can back Boston to win at Plainmoor for 2/1.

Finally, Justin Whittle is due a goal! The bookies have given up on Whitts scoring, but he keeps going up for corners and free kicks, and is 80/1 to score the first goal, and 20/1 to score at all.. It surely is only a matter of time before Whittle scores a goal!

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Grimsby to beat Lincoln (3/1).
  • 2. Macclesfield to beat Accrington Stanley (11/10).

Outrageous Long Shot (£1 special)

  • 1. Justin Whittle to score the first goal against Lincoln (80/1).
  • 2. Justin Whittle to score the last goal) against Lincoln (80/1).
