Glad to see Bogle given a run but by all accounts Hoban had his best game so far so a slight surprise. Horwood coming out is a surprise too unless he's injured.

Wonder if 2 games in 3 days is just a bit much for them at the moment. Neither played huge amounts of football this season.

So no Pearson again.  I very much doubt Macclesfield have a quick forward.  Does Pearson deserve to be dropped.  Dont agree with Robertson the lad is crocked.  Glad to see Bogle given a go and hope Stewart gets a chance.  I hope the changes dont come to bit us on the bottom.

That would be my guess, particularly Hoban.

Let's hope we start positive but tight at the back, we don't concede an early goal and to have to chase the game.

It's what separates us from FGR and Cheltenham, they don't concede goals against the run of play like we do.
Good test for us though, plenty of time to hit back.

This formation with only one winger only really works against a Gary Mills type team, wrong formation to start the game in the first place

They are one of our worse bogey teams and they way its panning out i hope we get back in this like someone else says friday will be pointless.  I wonder if PH shares the same as we do in trying to win all games.

Braintree 1 point behind us at it stands. Played one more than us though, but puts the whole big-crowd/budget needed argument to rest.

Something had to change, when Hurst made the change on Saturday it was to counter Wrexham tactically. Today it seems to solely be because it worked out with no tactical thought towards this game.

We are not playing that bad! The ref is poor and Hurst made the right change, taking Clay off, he was playing terribly.

I dont think Robertson played well either....given the ball away in the first half that nearly put us 1 down.

Another goal against (sigh) the run of play. I will never ever work out how such a good, ordered defence can let in so many goals from such a small amount of chances.

Styche shouldn't even be player he should be suspended after elbowing a opposition player on Saturday.

I dont think PH shared the same enthusiasm for the title.  I have no idea why he made changes if he says to keep players fresh its all bollox did he rest Disley, no.  He messed up and its egg on his face.

Oh well playoff it is.

You're losing, you sign a new guy and he's sat on the flipping bench whilst you put a centre back up top! Why sign him in the first place if you're not going to bother using him? Some of these loan signing absolutely baffle me.

One step forward, two steps back and it's all just predictable again.

I bet any other team in any position in the League would have brought in Stewart to USE in games, particularly when chasing a 1 goal deficit in the final minutes.
It's almost like Hurst panics when he gets credit for a game, and goes against logic and basic common sense to annoy the fans.

All I can say is Hurst gave up on the title leaving a attacking player on the bench for a defender albeit a make shift target man who does not score many ????? Totally puzzled.

Frustration! Dissapointing!

Fgr concede in the last minute and, in all honesty, we lose the perfect opportunity to stack the pressure on the top too. It now takes all the pressure off cheltenham tonight. The games in hand now don't in reality mean a lot. 8 points dropped against far weaker opposition in the past few weeks is what has let us down. Ah, but we're probably still being spoiled

You dont know what you,re doing !  You tried the same formation as Saturday but you didn,t play your attacking fullback to compensate for not having winger.  You didn,t play your runner. You didn,t think again .  You dont know what you,re doing.

You took the accolades on Saturday  so you,ve got to take the blame today.

just had phone call from friend at match. Hurst has got it all wrong today, he leaves our new player on the bench when we needed him. He brings on Pearson when we are crying out for an attacker to get a result, all through the game Hurst had his arms folded while Chris Doig was going ballistic with the players, urging them on. Sorry Mr. Hurst but you have thrown the slim chance away.
Utterly gutted by the result, we are now in the play offs. The result will not affect anything on Friday against Cheltenham, the substitutions were appawling in my eyes, you never urge the players on in the game, I dearly wish we get promotion through the play offs, but I sincerely hope you are not in charge next season. I don't mind the red crosses on this, its my personal opinion and I'm sure a lot of others. Disgusted.

Look, it's nothing new. We've seen it all before. It's Hurst isn't it - nobody should be surprised. And the players...? Turned up for about 20 minutes and then capitulated to a very average team with nothing to play for, who haven't managed to win at home since November! All in all, unsurprisingly pathetic.

Hurst did get it wrong today but my God, how are the players getting away with barely any criticism here. I saw an interview with Graeme Souness the other week were he said players get away with murder nowadays, escape a large amount of criticism which is then diverted to the manager. I can't help but feel he's right.

Shame we didn't take at least a point from this. With a difficult run of fixtures coming up I fear we'll be looking over our shoulders. Tranmere have a decent run-in and have a feeling they'll sneak into the play-offs - hopefully not at our expense.

I'm sure that the supporters who suffered the non performance today will have plenty to say about the players when they return tonight. By the sounds of it, they did little to deserve that fabulous travelling backing they received today.

You've made a really good point there. But the manager is there to inspire confidence and set out tactics the players will believe in. If us fans find it hard to find any inspiration in Hurst, imagine how the players feel working with him day in day out. I don't think he morphs into Alex Ferguson on the training ground. He also picks the team, the formation and orders them to play to a certain style, method and shape.

I honestly believe the impact a manager can have on confidence is limited, with previous performances dictating it much more. And you're right, and maybe his tactics weren't correct today. But what about the other times we've failed to beat lower opposition when the tactic used has worked previously, surely that is a result of the player rather than the manager. I'm not saying Hurst should avoid criticism, but I do feel he is really let down by the players on days like this.

It'd be great if we could take off one of these under performing players and put a new, chomping at the bit player, eager to prove himself in their place.
Sort of substituting one player for another in a (get this bit!) tactical way.

It could take off, who knows.

Football is never logical...Seems that when the players feel a challenge they rise to it..Motivation from either the management team OR the players individually(collectively)  should be called into question.

I meant players personal confidence in team selection, management of squad, signings, formation etc. Results and performances do breed confidence though. It's more about whether the players fully buy into his decisions. I think scraping a few wins has papered over the cracks since Halifax. The Bogle outburst was clear evidence that the squad's faith in Hurst's decisions was running a little thin. It has left us brittle when it comes to performances and I'm worried that a team like Tranmere will have the real momentum going into the play offs.

I think Tranmere could just miss out. Eastleigh are making a late push and I see it being between Town, Braintree, Dover and them to make the playoffs. We are not guaranteed a place!
If we lose Friday it will give the teams below a chance to close the gap

I think sometines the changes to a winning team may have had a negative effect mentally.  Imagine having a stormer then dropped how do the other players react.  Like that.

We need a new manager with fresh ideas as PH imo has gone stale.  How can JF defend him is beyond.  I wonder if JF ever thinks why PH.

If Cheltenham lose to Wrexham, not that much has actually changed from the start of the day, apart from there being one game less. Bromleys late equaliser could actually be quite useful (still dreaming)

Well done to the 900+ that went today, another great effort from the fans and one that deserves more from both management and players TBH.

Could not go today as had to choose between today and Friday so difficult to comment on what we did/ did not do or should have done etc..

The title was probably gone in the period between the August BH (when we again lost to Macclesfield) and the end of September when we took 11 points from 21, bridging that gap has proved too much.

I don't know what the solution is but I know that this is difficult to take, especially when FGR drop points. Maybe we should have gone to Macclesfield today set up not to lose and anything else would have been a bonus.

Hurst Out? Not yet but ultimately that feels like the only way forward. I just wonder what Gary Mills would do with our squad?

Possibly but realistically if we changed who would we get in? Someone with a decent level of experience and who has achieved some success would always be worth looking at.

When the "Hurst out" debate starts as it always does when we lose we don't often hear many "realistic" nominations to take over.

The thing what lets Gary Mills down is his signings, his player recruitment is quite poor, but tactically he's very good

I bet any other team in any position in the League would have brought in Stewart to USE in games, particularly when chasing a 1 goal deficit in the final minutes.
It's almost like Hurst panics when he gets credit for a game, and goes against logic and basic common sense to annoy the fans.

Think about it  Robo, there is about 5 mins to go, we set out to launch it long and high into their box. Pearson is the obvious choice. Jordan Stewart is about 4 foot 2, he would not get a touch. Get off PH's back, the players did not perform today although had chances to get more goals. Also he did change the shape after 38 mins.

1-1 now

Cheltenham won't bottle their challenge for top spot I'm sure...looking back to when they turned us over in October you knew in your heart of hearts they could and probably would take the title

We just need to make sure if / when we get to the play-offs that we have a few games with Wrexham-like performances in us otherwise days like today will mean we'll be back at Macc again next season

Absolutely spot on. I thought the new lad was a mascot he's that small. Not the sort of game for a debut. Had he come on and done badly some on here would have been baying for his blood.

He did take Tait off. Putting Pearson on gave us extra height up top. He nearly set up an equaliser too.

I know he brought Tait off, what I'm saying shove Toto up top and bring Stewart on for Tait

Fact remains Stewart should have been on anyway as soon as they went 2-1 up

Hurst got his team selection and tactics wrong.

I don't often post on these forums for fear of being ripped apart for having an opinion. I do get very confused reading them sometimes though.

Hurst is wrong for not putting Bogle in, who lets be honest is not having a good time of it at the moment, only then to be criticized for changing the team that played on Saturday.

I've heard people say that Hurst coaches the attacking instincts out of players but we have the top goalscorer in the league and are one of the highest scoring teams in the league.

I've heard people call for Hurst's head on a plate if we fail to beat a team, even though it is a draw in the middle of a run of 9 games unbeaten. I've even heard people say he should be sacked because we have only one a game by one goal.

Every one has an opinion on who they would like to replace Hurst if he was to go but some of the names mentioned are laughable, Gary Mills being the prime example, when he was at Gateshead he set his team up to cheat and play dirty and I personally have no interest in watching a Grimsby team play like that.

I don't think some people would be happy even if we had Pep Guardiola or Sir Alex in his prime as manager at the club and I think some people on here want to see Town fail just so they could have a moan.

I am a Town fan and want them to win and be successful and I will be behind them all the way all the time no matter what. We can still get promoted this season we just have to all be pulling in the same direction, lets leave the negativity till the end of the season and have a good old moan or hopefully double celebration then.

Anyway that my two pennies worth let the ripping apart commence.

So what IS he here for? Wrexham at home deemed too tough for his debut. Away at Macc..nope. Away at leaders Cheltenham onTV? pretty tough debut....caution reigns with Hurst.

I disagree with you guys, and your opinion is highly valued by myself, but to talk of Pearson coming on as some kind of planned Plan B as opposed to some very nippy run-at-them wide man is not convincing me, especially as we are hopeless at launching set pieces onto our players heads, no matter what their height/ability, as shown by our final corner that went over everybody.

Hippo....You dont expect a manager to keep the same team throughout the season but they normally change a team after a bad performance not after a game like Saturdays. He will pretend to himself that the players needed a rest....... for gods sake   The dabbler has to dabble again..

Marcus Bignot - Solihull Moors, currently 12 points advantage at the top of the National North, although played two games more.  Maybe he can get Bogle firing like he did the last few seasons.

I would of said John McDermott at Harrogate, but they have LLDDL their last 5 games, so might not achieve the playoffs yet.

Cheltenham just let in a last minute goal. With Forest Green doing the same at lowly Bromley this is a huge missed opportunity today and has cost us any chance of the title.

Actually 91, I disagree. You could argue that it means that we are in with the same chance tonight as we were before today's game. FGR have gained a point on us. That's all.

I see Cheltenham lost and Forest Green only drew so nothing much changed between the top three teams.
It's not as if we were ever going to get to the end of the season winning every single match.
Anyone who thinks that - Dream on!!!!
Once Wrexham beat Forest Green and we beat Cheltenham we then start to climb to the peak with winning our easy games in hand.
If we don't get there, play offs will be more excitement!
Come on you mighty Mariners.
Come on you supporters - Get off our Managers back!

I can see the logic but we're rapidly running out of games to bridge the gulf and today, against a limited team with little to play for in front of lots of Town fans, was a great chance that we've blown. If we'd won today we'd have gone to Cheltenham on Friday with them shitting themselves!

Very frustrating!

The chasing pack are closing in again, I still think we will have enough to get into the play-offs but I don't want to stumble in them without much form/momentum and I am not convinced that we won't have another stinker like Halifax and today :/

Hopefully we can add to the Cheltenham choke on Friday and make things interesting

How many games do we need FGR and Chelts to lose if and i say that whilst laughing if we won all our remaining games.  We are clinging on by a thin thread.  I just want us out this crap league and bring some success back to the club.  We had anything to cheer for a very long time.

I think the match at Cheltenham is absolutely massive and if we win then there is still that thread of hope.
Lose or draw it and it's Play Offs for sure!
I reckon it'll be a draw personally.

Nothing is guaranteed at the moment, we should have the games in hand and the quality in the squad to secure a top 3 finish without too much worry tbh.

Just have to get behind the boys on Friday, Cheltenham will be a tough ask but I don't think we should go there and fear them, player for player I think we are on par, mentally they may be more fragile than us at the moment.

I can see the logic but we're rapidly running out of games to bridge the gulf and today, against a limited team with little to play for in front of lots of Town fans, was a great chance that we've blown. If we'd won today we'd have gone to Cheltenham on Friday with them shitting themselves!

I know mate. I meant to say that statistically we are in with roughly the same chance of the title (albeit a further point behind FGR),  not actually. We won't win the title I don't think, regardless of the teasing, numerical scope.
The thing that's especially galling is that this looks like the year when chance after chance to make a claim on top spot has presented itself. This hasn't really happened to us before. Unfortunately we have squandered opportunity after opportunity, and usually against 'nothing' teams. That has.

Hurst hasn't got it in him to take is to that level, and neither have most of the players, evidently.

If only it was the fans that won promotion eh.....

Did Hurst do a post match interview?

Marcus Bignot - Solihull Moors, currently 12 points advantage at the top of the National North, although played two games more.  Maybe he can get Bogle firing like he did the last few seasons.

I would of said John McDermott at Harrogate, but they have LLDDL their last 5 games, so might not achieve the playoffs yet.

Would you not want someone who has achieved success at our level or above. Hurst and Scott had a good record at a lower level.

I would love Macca as Manager but is he not assistant at Harrogate? Massive gamble that. John Still would have done it for me but he as a southerner would not move North and would be massively unpopular as soon as we had a poor result.

Not heard it if he has. My worry is that if Amond's goalscoring dries up then we're finished because we have no other threat really. He's a brilliant striker but I'd be very surprised if he can keep going at the rate he has been doing since November which is extremely troubling for our play off hopes.

Yeah he did Chaos

In short he said he was unhappy

Unhappy with how we didn't perform in the first half so that's why he changed things early (and admitted that he doesn't usually make such changes )

Even more unhappy with the officials and said their second was way offside and even the Macc bench couldn't believe how they got away with it

He was asked too about the changes and said Hoban out / Bogle in was owing to Pat having given his all but today might have been too tiring whereas Omar was chomping at the bit so deserved his chance. Said he'd get criticism whichever way but the changes didn't affect the team

That is my fear, and has been all season,we have no strong  pacey  winger running onto loose balls in the area. This is especially apparent at corners.

If we can get someone decent that is available yes.  I've said it before, no offense to them, but the Town board will never take the opportunity to grab a decent manager if one was available, it's just the way it is.  We could of had Micky Mellon a couple of seasons ago when he left as assistant of Barnsley December 2013, ends up at Shrewsbury at the end of 2013/14, gets them promoted and even though they're 17th in league one, they haven't lost a match in 9 games.

Hurst just does enough in our league to keep him in his job in the eyes of the Town board, we have had a fairly easy ride to the FA Trophy final, it's a total Mickey Mouse cup, it's not a massive achievement and if we don't win promotion, it will just be a glory day out for 12,000 people who can't be bothered to turn up at Blundell Park week in, week out.

I could not agree more to be honest mate.........Though based upon this year 12,000 for the FAT final is optimistic I reckon, but there will be some week in week out fans in whatever numbers we take.

The FAT has cost me this year as a season ticket holder living South I find night games difficult to get to and there have been more this term due to FAT postponements..........Will I be at the final? Only if we win there the week before I'm afraid.
