I thought the fact Andrew was clearly speaking as investors being plural was very encouraging. Also saying shareholding will increase would mean it’s more than a sponsor etc. I’m really quite enthused for the future even so soon after a poor season.
Thanks for the feedback aswell, glad people enjoyed it 🙂

Really enjoyed it and I think everybody can learn a lot from Jason’s segment about reactions online, we’re all guilty of it at some point.
Found Artells stuff really interesting too, he was absolutely bang on the money about style of play and how the way we play contributes to not scoring enough goals. He talks about playing to stop the opposition means you’re not in control of that football match and you can’t repeat any actions, because you’re constantly setting up to stop others in different ways. He still divides opinions but you get the feeling that he knows exactly how to win, he just needs to get that across to the (right) players.

I felt that that was how PH set his team up week in, week out. In the last few months it was like he was incapable of playing an attacking XI but would rather set his team up in a way that could thwart the other team, which more often than not, failed to happen as well.

I also found the Artell part really interesting. I’ve not heard the term repeatable goals before but it makes a lot of sense. All the best town teams in my lifetime have had a repeatable way of scoring. Think a one two with Tony Rees, Donovan crossing for Groves or a ball in the channel for Reddy. Can’t think of any references from the last 20 odd years funnily enough

I can think of a few repeatable ways of conceding though.

That makes a lot of sense. I think there are 3 approaches to playing: Stop the opposition (Hurst) Play a rigid way (Buckley) Exploit the opposition. Hopefully we can be fluid in our style so that we can exploit our opponents weaknesses rather than playing a rigid style that soon gets found out or constantly worry about the opposition. There's a time and a place for the Hurst way of playing, but it definitely won't be the main tactic under Artell.

Will probably get shouted at for this but Holloway's initial approach was definitely about letting the opposition worry about you...we did concede but we also scored too..that first season was quite good to watch .....obviously Covid changed all that but that first spell he definitely put emphasis on that approach

Don't we have people (scouts) watching other teams for their strengths and WEAKNESSES. If we can't afford it their are plenty of videos and tv recordings available.

Regarding the investors, I got the impression at least two had “local” links. Any ideas who that could be?

one thing that surprised me was Andrew saying how few clubs at our level use data. That reminded me that when we got 21st group on board JS said only Plymouth (who were subsequently promoted) and us were their only clients in the lower leagues. So if it is used well, we should have a big advantage over everyone else
