The Staying Up Debate

David Peasgood this week finds Bert and Fred are taking stock of this year and looking to next year.
Hear their views and YOU decide in our latest 'fishy' poll.

Fred and Bert

The Staying Up Debate

BERT:
We're going down next year and frankly I don't mind.

FRED:
We'll lose a million quid from Sky and can't afford that.

BERT:
I don't care. I'd rather watch us push forward and try to score playing exciting football than this sterile AB pretty stuff that wins nothing.

FRED:
Yeah but another relegation scrap will see gates down further still and even bigger losses.

BERT:
Maybe. Then again the year after if we can be a promotion contender from Div 2, gates would be well back up again.

FRED:
It all sounds too risky. We could drop 2 divisions if we aren't careful and be bankrupt before you know it.

BERT:
So whats the answer?

FRED:
We need someone to score goals. Someone with presence who can lay the ball off to our diddy strikers. Someone with more pace than Livvo. We need Smith and Handyside back in defence and healthy. we need to stop practicing on artificial turf

BERT:
Whoa whoa whoa. Whats the artificial turf got to do with it?

FRED:
There's no slippage on it. They put sand on it to make it slip a little but it's too easy to stop dead on it and jar knees, ankles, muscles etc. I reckon that's where many of our injuries come from.

BERT:
And will AB buy a new striker that has height and pace and presence? Will he be given the money?

FRED:
I just don't know, but I firmly believe that we either invest half a million to strengthen the front line or lose 2 million in gates and relegation.

BERT:
Suppose AB left?

FRED:
Interesting thought. Can't see it though. Cost too much to sack him and he won' t resign.

BERT:
He might get bored.

FRED:
I doubt it. More chance of him changing tactics.

BERT:
He has been unlucky though with injuries and lack of cash.

FRED:
Maybe he has and maybe he hasn't. It depends on who you believe. Anyway, in summary we either get a striker, change tactics and we could stay up, none of which you think AB will go for, or we get the squad fit, start with a solid defence and hope Clare, Allen and Ashcroft come good as AB is most likely to do.

BERT:
Yeah.

FRED:
You're right. We're going down. More Beer?

BERT:
Just a half.

Now for the vote...
