Carlisle in Worthy Cup

News from 24th July 2000

Worthy Cup

Town have been drawn against 3rd division Carlisle in a repeat of last season's corresponding fixture in the same competition. Last year Town won the second leg 6-0 at Blundell Park, with Jack Lester scoring a hattrick, following a goalless draw in Cumbria two weeks prior to that.

This season the ties are in the opposite order with Town at home first. In last year's competition Town followed up the 6-0 drubbing of Carlisle by a 4-2 aggregate victory over London side Leyton Orient before going out to Leicester City in a 2-0 defeat at Filbert Street.
