NELC Meeting Verdict

By: Nick Osborne
Date: 09/10/2000

A pretty boring meeting, the highlight of which was Clr. De Freitas going mental in a Q&A session in the middle of the meeting, asking a few questions which were quickly answered by the bloke from Gerard Eve, the consultants who did the report which the meeting was all about.

Other than that all that happened was the Consultants presented their findings, and I must say I thought the bloke concerned told them quite well. The site in Great Coates is going to be developed either as a football stadium, or if not something soon. Even if GTFC lose out somebody else will develop the area. As for the story in the Grimsby Evening Telegraph tonight, the various parts of the stadium can easily be shifted to accommodate the changes to the exclusion zone. The only exceptions are private residential dwellings within Great Coates Village, which will be soon be worth a fraction of their original value, whether or not the stadium (or any other development) is built. During the question time period about half a dozen questions were asked, mainly about the consultation zone, all answered by Graham Bates of Gerard Eve. Within 7 to 10 days the council will call a full meeting, in which they will decide then the fate of the GC Site, based on the Consultant's Report. Town Vice Chairman Bryan Huxford at the end of the meeting tonight said he was "Very pleased with the way things had gone".
