Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Cod Widow's Diary Week 4

By: Chez Osborne
Date: 16/10/2000

Long-suffering Chez Osborne, wife of Nick, tells the tale of the week she has had to endure as a Cod Widow. Times can be hard and Nick stretches her patience to the full on occasions as his priorities in life differ widely from her expectations of them!

Diary of a Cod Widow

Mon 9th OctNicko's at work today, but unfortunately for me he comes home early. Not sure why cos there's no footie today.

DOH...Silly me. He's off to the council meeting, no wonder he's managed to get a short shift. The plan is this: Go to the meeting and do a report for the Fishy. "I'll ring as soon as I come out the town hall with the headlines" he says. Like I said, that was the plan,

In fact, sadman himself turns his phone off and clears off to the pub with a couple of blokes from the meeting.

Many calls and messages later he switches it on. I can't print my messages to him, a bit too colourful for the fishy I think. No more for today, it's not printable.

Tue 10thDoes this man ever go to work? He's got a day off. Quiet day all round really. We get a sitter and go out for a meal. Indian, our favourite food. Getting ready was fun though. Sadman forgot about the phone-in on humbs with LL. The pain on his face when he realised he would miss it all was both amusing and annoying. Even he wouldn't try and get out of taking me out. Though I'm sure he would have tried if he thought he could get away with it. Tough on him I say.
Wed 11thEngland game tonight. He's on nights. Off a bit earlier so he can listen to match on radio."I might go in the chatroom" says me. "You can, but I doubt anyone will be in there." He was right. Chatting on ICQ with The Pirate later, I asked him if he was in chatroom for the match. Err…. what match, he said. Town game I said. There isn't one he said. DOH…(again). I cant help it,I get mixed up. It's living with Nicko that does it.
Thu 12thIts DOH.. time again. Not for me but for my mate. We went swimming at the Clee leisure. While getting changed I noticed a sign for aerobikes, you know, aerobics, but with bikes. You seen this, I ask her. Do they do it in the water, she says. DOH. And you think I'm daft.
Fri 13thNowt to report for today. Thankfully.
Sat 14thBit busy this morning, got to wake him up early for the match. He's on nights remember. He's meeting up in the Rutland as usual. Why is it me that has to do everything, it's him going to the game, it's him going to the pub its all him him him, and yet I have to do the running about. Anyone else suffer the same thing?

I even have to pick him up after the game cos he's off straight to work, a peaceful night for me then. Not so bloody likely, he hasn't been gone for more than 20 minutes and he's on the phone. Emergency meeting at BP he screams down the phone, I yawn and say oh really. Huddersfield board are meeting right now at BP, they must be sacking Bruce he reckons. Errrr….what's this got to do with Town I ask him. Nothing he says but its footie news and we all like to hear the latest goings on even if it doesn't concern Town. I'm getting bored now, the line's a bit bad, I'll see you in the morning. Yawn, well that's him gone, now, where's me gladrags, I'm off out hehehehe. He'll never know.
