Red Tape Delays Debut

By: Stephen Bateman
Date: 29/11/2000

Chinese star Zhang Enuha will be prevented from making his Grimsby Town debut until the home tie against Norwich City in a fortnight's time. The experienced defender will be delayed in appearing for the Mariners as the club awaits international clearance.

Enuha, who will watch Saturday's clash with Crystal Palace from the sidelines, is keen to get his Blundell Park adventure on the road as he said "The challenge of playing football here makes me feel comfortable and it is brilliant to be here." It seems that Mariners fans will quickly warm to the Chinese skipper's style of play as he continued "I am fascinated and interested, firstly in the British football atmosphere and the history of the game in England. Secondly, I like the way English football is played. It is very aggressive and there is lots of physical contact and I like that." Having experienced the disappointment of completing a successful trial with Southampton only to see his dreams of a move to England dashed by a row over cash, the Chinese Player of the Year hinted that he would like to make the move to Blundell Park a permanent one: "If I play and do a good job in the next four months then I think the manager at home will let me stay," said the 27-year old, speaking through an interpreter. "For me I think the main point is that I'm happy. That is the most important thing."
