Injury Update

By: Stephen Bateman
Date: 19/12/2000

Steve Livingstone is set to make a return for the Mariners this weekend after being sidelined for almost a month by a series of niggling injuries. The Middlesbrough-born front man is expected to join the Grimsby squad as they face Preston North End on Saturday.

After minor injury scares, goalkeeper Danny Coyne and midfielder Stacey Coldicott also look likely to travel to Lancashire. Coyne had complained of a sore foot after Saturday's victory against Norwich, while Coldicott has been a victim of persistent back and hamstring problems throughout the season. Defender Paul Raven has resumed light training, although it is not expected that he will be fit enough to join the squad. The former West Brom defender has missed most of the season through ankle ligament problems, but it is hoped that he will be available for selection during the Christmas period. Meanwhile, a decision on whether or not Bradley Allen will require surgery to correct damaged ankle ligaments has been postponed until after Christmas. Mariners boss Lennie Lawrence commented: "Brad won't play over the holiday period, and that's a bit of a blow to us. He'll rest it up and then we'll see how things are then." Alan Pouton will also miss the festive period with a recurring knee injury that is expected to keep him out of action until at least the new year. Tony Gallimore is another who looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after incurring shin damage. The former Carlisle defender is due to see a specialist later this week.
