Fishy: Please could you give a brief introduction of yourself.
Steff: Well...I'm a Leicester Mariner, a full time Student, and a part time Husband/Father/Web Designer during the Season, which doesn't go down too well at home...So Jayne says...as she is dictating this to me at the moment!!! Look out Chez you've got a fellow conspirator for your page!!!
Steff Keightley
Fishy: When did you first start supporting the Mariners, and what was your first game?
Steff: I can't remember when I started supporting Town, but the first game I can remember, just, was September '72, the year after our promotion from Div. 4, it was my 5th Birthday Party. I can't remember the exact date, or who we played, but I can remember shouting a lot.
Fishy: Who is the best player you ever saw wearing a Grimsby Town shirt?
Steff: Well there's been a few, Waters, Ford, Brolley, John Cockerill, Drinkell, Bonetti, Sherwood, Handyside, Lever, Croft, Mendonca to name but a few, the list goes on...But if I have to pick one it has to Handyside, Pure Class.
Fishy: If there is one game you were allowed to go back in time and watch what would it be and why?
Steff: I suppose everybody's is Wembley, I managed to get pitch side as the photographer for the Official Web Site. What an immense sensation...But my own personal favourites are Town V Exeter, 11 May 1991...Cockerill scores twice to send us up to the 2nd Div. and why? 'cause I was the first idiot over the fence from the Pontoon!!!!!!! And Town V Leicester 1997, 3-1 winners, which won me £50 off a right idiot of a Leicester fan.
Fishy: What are your favourite and least favourite away grounds?
Steff: Favourite Ground: Wembley...100% record there.
Worst: Hillsborough, only time I've left a game early...getting beat 7-1 and missing John Osters stunning volley.
Fishy: What, in your opinion, are GTFC's best and worst seasons since you have been supporting them?
Steff: Worst Season: Any season involving Brian Laws, I have to feel sorry for Kenny Swain working with that man.
Best Season: Any involving Promotion.
Fishy: What is the most eventful day you have ever had in the course of following the Mariners?
Steff: The most eventful day that I've had has to be travelling to see Town play Wimbledon in the 5th round of the FA Cup in '89. I travelled through 5 countries, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France and our own fair, green country. It had been timed to the exact minute, as I'd just come off night's whilst serving in Germany. Only to miss the 1st half through being searched at customs, the guy was a Dons fan and pissed off that he wasn't seeing the game.
Fishy: Who is the greatest ever GTFC manager?
Steff: For achieving things at Town it has to be Buckley...(Grudgingly)
Fishy: How many games a season do you get to now, and what do you do while Town are playing games that you can't get to?
Steff: I try to get to most home games and at least 4 away games, but being a Mature Student and with Jayne, I tend to see about 15 - 20 games a season. If I can't watch Town, you can find me in the chat room on the Fishy during the game.
Fishy: Name your all-time starting eleven since you have been watching Town?
Steff: Coyne, McDermott, Croft, Handyside, Futcher, Cunnington, Cockerill, Bonetti, Ford, Drinkell and Mendonca.
Fishy: Do your children support the Mariners?
Steff Between Jayne (a Leicester Fan but has seen 2 Town Games) and I we have 4, the 2 girls both follow, Moan Utd, Jack follows Leicester and Josh is not sure yet, as he's only 5...BUT I'm still trying to educate him!!!!.
