Forest Steward Incident

By: Eddie Burdass
Date: 25/02/2001

I came back from Nottingham feeling very sad about the actions of the Thug of a steward. He appeared to be staring in a provocative manner at, as I saw it one fan near the front of the stand from a distance of about five feet away.

I thought this was very strange as no trouble had occured, this was in the first few minutes. As he was in my field of vision I could see the steward keeping up this strange behaviour but could not understand why!

In the second half when the trouble started this steward went wild, I don't know why as I saw no trouble, but he really lost it. He dragged someone out the area he had been staring at for over one hour and roughly manhandled him out of the stand although rough treatment was not needed.

On coming back into the stand I saw him take wild swings at two people, I think knocking one to the ground. By this this time things were getting heated. I called a policeman over and told him I had seen a steward behaving in the manner I have described and he did not want to know!

Things continued to get worse and I saw a senior policeman with two pips or crowns on his uniform, so I told him the same hoping he would take action against the steward. He said "We have no control over the stewards" - this rather surprised me, however I later saw him being escorted from the stand by a female steward.

I can only hope he is made to pay for what he did today i.e. a charge of assault or whatever is suitable and that a lifetime ban of him ever entering any football ground is also handed to him.
