Menno Willems Signs

The negotiations with Vitesse Arnhem over the Menno Willems deal have now reached a conclusion with Willems signing a contract with Grimsby Town today. The two clubs finally agreed on payment terms and the 160,000 pound transfer was completed in time for Menno to be included in the team tomorrow.

Earlier it was thought that Willems would miss the game, with Vitesse Arnhem refusing to extend his loan period while negotiations continued. The addition of Willems, in a two year deal, to the Grimsby squad makes him the first permamanent transfer for Lawrence since he joined Grimsby in August last year, and will be greeted with pleasure by the fans, who have been impatient for signings.

The Amsterdam-born midfielder, who will be 24 on the 10th March, has played in 14 league matches while on loan at Blundell Park. The hard-shooting Dutchman's deadly delivery from corners and free kicks has been notable since his arrival in November, adding an extra attacking dimension to the team from set-pieces.
