Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

LL Targets Carl Leaburn

By: Fishy News Team
Date: 20/05/2001

LENNIE LAWRENCE is expected to open negotiations next week with former Wimbledon and Charlton striker Carl Leaburn. The Dons finally confirmed that the 32-year-old striker would not be offered a new contract during the summer, paving the way for Lawrence to issue a bid for a player he knows well.

Leaburn was handed his professional debut by Lawrence during his Charlton days, where he went on to make over 300 league appearances.

The Mariners' boss has been scouring the footballing world for a physically imposing striker for some time, and is understood to be very keen on attracting Leaburn to Blundell Park.

A source close to the 6'3" marksman revealed to The Fishy that Lawrence will face stiff competition in his attempts to sign the experienced forward, however. It is believed that the Lewisham-born forward is keen to remain in the South, and a number of other clubs - including Cambridge, Luton and Northampton - are also interested in securing his services.
