The Board Back Lennie's Plans For new Season!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 28/06/2001

GTFC announced today that Lennie Lawrence, who returns to BP from holiday on Monday, will do so knowing he has the full backing of the Board of Directors "to get cracking on moves to strengthen the squad in readiness for the new campaign."

Lennie attended a board meeting on Wednesday afternoon, said Mariners Net, to put forward his proposals, which were described by Chairman Peter Furneaux as "very interesting" and which were approved by the board. Mr Furneaux said, "We had a constructive and positive meeting with the manager, and when he officially returns to work on Monday he has the backing of the Board to put his ideas into practice."

...Lennie has obviously been doing his homework in the close season..."

"He has obviously been doing his "homework" in the close season period and had some very interesting proposals."

The report continues: "As well as any new plans for strengthening his squad, Lennie will also be awaiting the decisions of Peter Handyside and Wayne Burnett, who have both been offered new deals by the club but have delayed in committing themselves to the Mariners to listen to other offers.

"Should Handyside not re-sign then a central defender will be even higher on Lennie's list of priorities, with Richard Smith released and speculation still surrounding the future of Paul Groves after a reported bid from Lincoln City to install him on the Sincil Bank coaching staff."

Next Story: The announcement that Bryan Huxford is making a takeover bid for Grimsby Town Football Club has certainly caused a stir amongst the fans. The Fishy provides a forum for fans to express their opinions and views. Paul Dixon a long time fan, gives his opinion on the recent developments. Full Story Here!
