Buckley Snubs Grimsby Fans and Press!!

"The crowd should acknowledge the massive contribution he's made to this football club in the two spells he has been here." So said Lennie Lawrence before the game against Lincoln last night not knowing that Buckley would snub him and Grimsby!!

The Grimsby Telegraph reported that the Grimsby Town fans responded to Lawrence's request and gave Buckley a warm reception especially from the main stand. When the applause came Buckley ignored them and failed to acknowledge them.

"....Speak to you Grimsby lot, you must be joking...."

After the game was over and accepting defeat, Buckley headed straight down the tunnel rather than shake Town boss Lennie Lawrence's hand - as is customary between managers at the full-time whistle.

At the post match conference Buckley refused to speak to the Grimsby Telegraph reporter saying, "Speak to you Grimsby lot, you must be joking."

Stuart Rowson of the GET commented: In the dugout Buckley had spared himself a rare smile at his side's first half goal, but his failure to acknowledge the warm welcome he received from the fans in the Main Stand before kick-off was a shameful act on his part.

The fans deserved better and his ignorant refusal to shake Lawrence's hand after the final whistle as he hurriedly skulked down the tunnel was nothing short of disgraceful.

All managers hate losing, especially to their old team, but last night Alan Buckley appeared to disgrace his team and football by his lack of good manners, particularly in view of the reception he got and the praise he received from Lennie Lawrence, John Cockerill and Paul Groves.

A pity he was not able to respond in the same way. Grimsby fans will not forget that!
