Coyne Overlooked Again By Wales

By: Paul Holmes
Date: 29/08/2001

DANNY COYNE has again being snubbed by Wales manager Mark Hughes for a Wales call-up after Roger Freestone has pulled out of the squad injured. Freestone twisted his ankle in Swansea's 1-1 draw with Cheltenham at the weekend.

Freestone is still set to travel with the squad but is almost certainly ruled out of action.

Hughes has come under constant attack from Town fans at his refusal to give Coyne the call up he truly deserves.

Coyne, who has won one cap for Wales back in 1994, may realise that he has no other choice but to leave Grimsby if he is to further his international ambitions - or for Mark Hughes to depart for a more impartial manager.

Coyne's rebuttal comes despite continued recent excellent performances between the sticks for the Mariners, including Monday's 4-2 defeat by Portsmouth in which the Welshman made several world class saves to keep the score down.
