Jevons and Gallimore Ruled Out of Palace

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 17/09/2001

STRIKER Phil Jevons is ruled out of The Mariners trip to Palace tomorrow, as is left back Tony Gallimore. The injuries pave the way for Michael Jeffrey and Marlon Broomes to make their first league starts of the season in the long trip to Selhurst Park in South London.

The former Goodison Park striker limped off during Saturday's 0-0 draw with Forest with a groin injury. It is feared that 22-year-old Jevons may have a hernia problem which could require an operation - a outcome that would be a major setback to Lennie Lawrence and further reduce the small number of options available from Town's tiny squad to the Grimsby manager.

Lennie Lawrence has been impressed with the form of Jeffrey so far this campaign, although all the former Fortuna Sittard striker's league appearances to date this year have been from the bench. "Michael has done very well recently. He's looking as sharp as I've ever seen him and he'll probably start against Palace. The good news is that Bradley Allen is also looking pretty good and nearing full fitness, so we do have options if Phil doesn't make it" said the Town boss.

Gallimore is suffering from a virus which will mean that Blackburn loanee Marlon Broomes will probably start at left back, a position which the 23-year-old has played in in the past, although his preferred position is in central defence.
