The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

We Should Have Won: Burnett

JUST as the doubters began to peer around their cupboard under the stairs Grimsby Town responded with a performance jam-packed with attacking determination to slam the door on their fingers.

After shipping five goals in a disastrous match at Crystal Palace, everybody wondered if the Mariners bubble had spectacularly burst.

Well it hasn't, and the spirit raging within the Town ranks is so strong they should be labelled 100 per cent proof, said the Grimsby telegraph in their lead story today.

Stuart Campbell in the interview said: "It was end-to-end stuff and it all just opened up for me after the ball was switched to the right. The ball broke to me after Menno shot, I beat a man and Jonny Rowan was unlucky not to control it and it dropped to me again - I can't remember much more about it. I'm just delighted to get a goal - the gaffer had been on at me to get one - and hopefully I can go on from here."

"...This team has got a strong character and to come from behind three times today just shows our never-say-die attitude..."

"It was great for Jonny (rowan) to get his first away goal - he deserved it after the way he has played so far."

"Lenny told us that it was a good point but he was a bit disappointed that we conceded three goals, but this is not an easy place to come to. "It has been a good season so far - we've just got to try and carry on.

"This team has got a strong character and to come from behind three times today just shows our never-say-die attitude," Campbell said.

Wayne Burnett said: "At times we totally dominated and they scored probably in the first minute and the last minute of the first half. It was hard to take and the gaffer wasn't pleased at half-time, and rightly so. We came out and got a goal and, unbelievably, they scored again. But Stu's goal was fantastic and he kept a cool head."

"People might look at it and say it's a good result because we went behind three times, but we should have won the game."

"I feel that the lads showed good spirit after going behind three times and from the hammering we got in midweek it was imperative that we didn't get beat. We showed a good fighting spirit and I think we should have won the game."

"It was very important not to lose after last Tuesday and not to lose two games on the spin was the main objective. We came here to attack and score, but the most important thing was that we didn't lose."

"We've got Gillingham at home which is difficult, and then we go to Bradford which will be tough. After that we play Rotherham at home and we've got to be picking up points from those two homes games. If we can show the same spirit and pass and attack like we did here and not concede as a team I think we can get the points we need."

"...They usually go in row Z!..."

"It was my first start in the League, but I played in the cup last week. It's always nice to get back in the team and get a goal and I really enjoyed it.

"Stuart Campbell got the ball on the right and took three players with him. He played a good ball inside to me and I was about 30 yards out and I carried forward and hit it. They usually go in row Z but it just managed to creep in and we're back in the game."
