Good News For Macca As Loan Search Hots Up!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 05/10/2001

LENNIE LAWRENCE Grimsby Town's manager is once again on the loan trail with his priority target being a right back with John McDermott on the sidelines for 3 months with a calf injury.

The good news is that McDermott will not now be out of the game for 6 months as previously feared and will not need an operation to repair the damage. This is good news for Lawrence who is now looking to get Beharall's club Newcastle to agree to allow him a season long loan deal.

The last game of central defender Broomes loan spell for Grimsby is against Rotherham tomorrow before he is due to return to Blackburn, although he is likely to miss the game with a knee injury. This will free up the loan situation for Lawrence in his search for a right back as he is only allowed two concurrent loans from British clubs and with Beharall (22) being under 23, he would be exempt from the ruling on a season-long loan.

With Grimsby's defence leaking goals during the last few games, Lawrence is treating the search with some urgency and has already earmarked a few players for trials, including the already infamous Ryan Green from Wolves.
