St Blundell Parish Newsletter: Village Hall News

By: Mr L Lawrence
Date: 01/11/2001

HELLO to you all and welcome to the Village Hall news. I am writing to you now on the back of a very good prayer meeting at home in local Cleethorpes.

Home > Features > Blundell Parish Newsletter #2

We signed up several hundred new members through some hard campaigning and persuasion!

Afterwards, as always, we had a trip to a local point of interest to help us unwind and relax for an hour or two. Nice to see Mr S Coldicott join us that evening after recent illness and of course our new members Mr Neilson, Mr Beharall and Mr Broomes. We all sincerely hope that they will be making their temporary stay in the village permanent. This week, we went to the amusements on the pier, which proved a very enjoyable experience, but not nearly as good as the trip we had to Liverpool where we not only had a conference full with 5,000 people watching, but a fantastic trip to "The Beetles Museum", which brought back memories of the olden days.

But I must re-iterate to all of the members and the people in the community that these Christian Fellowship meetings are all very well, but our priority is to serve the local community in organisation of events that everyone in the parish can be involved in. This leads me to telling you about the years biggest attraction within the Village Hall Club - The Local Pantomime, which this year, as you will all know, is a mixture of them all. The lead parts you already know from the last newsletter, but I can now confirm the full cast:

  • Drunken Sailor - Anthony Gallimore
  • Goldilocks - Wayne Burnett
  • Three Bears -
    • Danny Coyne (Daddy Bear)
    • Menno Willems (Mummy Bear)
(Menno volunteered to grow and dye his hair for the occasion)
    • Ben Chapman (Baby Bear)
  • Sailor who can't hit the shooting target to save his life - Michael Jeffrey
  • Captain Hook - Paul Groves
  • Ballet Trina - Danny Butterfield
  • Hobble along Jim - (with a guest appearance) Richard Smith
  • Hobble along Fred - Steve Livingstone
  • Ugly Sisters - Stacy Coldicott, Paul Raven
  • Buttons Bradley Allen
  • Baby Rabbit Jonny Rowan

There are three performances on the 17th, 18th and 19th of December, all at 7.00pm, tickets are on sale now from Mr J Cockerill of "Cockers Cottage" on Mill Lane, priced at a very reasonable £1.50. All proceeds go to the funding of the "New Church Fund". On that note, I can confirm that when the new Church is built, there will be a large schoolroom added on the southern side of the church. The Rev. P Furneaux has generously given permission for our meetings to take place in there, which will be much better than the old schoolroom at the current church, where there is no roof at all!

Elsewhere, I would, on behalf of Mr A Gallimore, like to invite you to the annual village hall club News Years party on the 31st December, to be held at Mr Gallimore's pub "Gallimore's Gallop". Here, we will have the usual festive fun, and of course plenty of grub, provided by Mrs Ramsden who has assured me she will be making her infamous Cherry (or was it sherry?) and Toffee pie, which last year, I seem to recall, had everyone on their knees! I'm sure this will be as good as previous years, so I hope to see you all there that evening, but I will of course remind you of these details nearer the time.

That's all for now. I'll see all the Village Hall members on Saturday for our little trip to the Wimbledon Wombles museum!

Bye

Lennie
