Broomes Awaits Loan Extension

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 06/11/2001

BLACKBURN ROVERS have agreed to extend centre back Marlon Broomes loan period by a further month. Grimsby boss Lennie Lawrence, however, has yet to get the nod from the Town board to consent to the extension. Broomes' current loan deal expires at the end of this week.

Blackburn Chief Executive John Williams told the official Rovers web site, "Grimsby have asked about him staying there and we have given it the green light."

The extension is though yet to get the backing of the Town board. "We're looking to extend if we can", Lawrence told Radio Humberside. "But obviously there are financial problems to overcome. It's what we can afford to do really."

Fellow loanee David Beharall's loan spell also comes to an end at the same time as Broomes, and Lawrence could be asking the board to extend the Newcastle defender's loan. Paul Raven's comeback from injury in recent weeks may cause the Town boss to think twice about whether he can justify to the club's directors the expense of another month of two Premiership players at the club.

  • Town Reserves' game with Bury, which was due to take place on Wednesday afternoon at Blundell Park, has been postponed due to the Lancashire outfit's first team commitments. No date has yet been scheduled for the rearranged match.  Reserve Fixtures
