Michael Boulding Wants To Stay At Blundell Park

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 04/12/2001

MICHAEL BOULDING is pledging his long-term future to Grimsby Town and is looking to secure a long term contract with the Mariners. "Quick Mick" said about Grimsby: "I love it here and the atmosphere is brilliant and it's a great place to play."

Talking to the Grimsby Telegraph he told them: "I'd love to stay but there's still a long way to go and we have to stay up."

He is waiting for a formal offer to stay and Lennie Lawrence is keen to keep him too.

"I think I've adjusted quite well to the first division and I'm still looking to improve and I want to do that at Grimsby. It would be fantastic to get a longer deal, but there's still a long time to the end of the season."

"I don't have any family commitments so when I came here it wasn't like I needed a long-term contract for security. I could have signed a long deal at Huddersfield. They offered me two years but that wasn't what I was thinking of. I wanted to better myself. I didn't think about deals."

Ex tennis pro, Boulding brought from non-League football by Mansfield and has only been in the professional game for two years.

"I've talked to Lennie about it but we haven't had any deep discussions."

"That's something we've got to look at. He's made pretty significant progress and he needs to stay and continue to progress," said Lennie Lawrence. "He's made a big jump as it is and coped well, so we are on the case and I've already spoken to him."

This news is just what the fans have been asking for recently with some voicing their concern that he might be signed by another club unless Town tie him down to a contract
