GRIMSBY goalkeeper Danny Coyne spoke to the Sports Telegraph about his thoughts ahead of the Euro 2004 qualifiers. Wales have been handed probably the toughest group of all the home nations and the Mariners' Player of the Year is desperate to grab Mark Hughes' attention in time for the qualifiers.

"It's a very tough group and as a player you always want to play at the highest level you can." Said the 28-year old, of the group that consists of Italy, Finland, Azerbaijan and Yugoslavia.

The former Tranmere shot-stopper has only one cap to his name, that a second half substitute appearance against Switzerland back in 1996. Now the Prestatyn-born keeper believes his form might just help him work back into the International set-up.

...I've still got the ambition to play for Wales...

"I've still got the ambition to play for Wales and if my form is making a few people take notice, then Mark Hughes might follow suit and I can get back in the squad." said Coyne.

Wales have two friendlies in the near future and Coyne has targeted both games to give him another chance to impress the Welsh coach. The Czech Republic arrive in Cardiff on March 27, and then there is the game against Germany on May 14.
