Grimsby Have Lots To Learn From Ronnie Moore

AS A PLAYER he was tough and uncompromising striker who wanted to win every game. Like him or loathe him he has a first class attitude. He may have got his fair share of stick when he came to Blundell Park in his playing days.

Now he is in management that desire does not seem to have left him. He doesn't care if Rotherham is facing Liverpool or Rochdale he wants his side to go on that pitch and try to win the game.

There is a lot of similarity between Rotherham and our club. Both have poor ground facilities and both haven't a penny between them to strengthen their squads. Yet there still is a huge difference dividing the clubs when it comes to attitude. Just recently, Rotherham after holding Coventry for 80mins, then conceded 2 goals to lose the match.

Ronnie Moore however was not pleased at his side's efforts and kept them in the dressing room for over an hour. He criticised the players for their efforts in the last ten minutes and their attitude of not going out to win the game.

If the above situation was Town, I doubt if our players would have been reprimanded in the same way Moore has done with his Rotherham. We would have been satisfied that we nearly got a point against them and, when you look back, maybe this is what Lennie was trying to instil in them when he referred to his little Grimsby mentality comment.

Bradford apart, due to other circumstances beyond the clubs control Ref). Yet here our manager has accepted these performances i.e. Groves comments after Crewe "we played well after we were 2-0 down for 60 minutes".

As Moore says, unless we shackle our mentality we will not survive. So Town players must improve their mental toughness and the will to go out to win every game if we are to succeed.
