Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Todd Could Be Fit For Saturday

By: Richard Lord
Date: 01/03/2002

LOAN signing Andy Todd is facing a race against time to be fit for another crucial match on Saturday against Crystal Palace at Blundell Park. Todd picked up a knee injury in the midweek success over Stockport and Groves is hopeful the Charlton player will make it.

Speaking to the Evening Telegraph the manager said: "He's a good healer and he has one hell of an appetite for the game. There's no question of him not wanting to risk it because he's on loan. He's desperate to play and wants to be fit.

"You only need to speak to him to be aware of what sort of player he is. You can't fault his desire."

Meanwhile Mick Boulding looks set to be recalled to the starting line up following Martin Pringle's horrific injury. Groves has been impressed with the progress of the former Mansfield striker and knows that goals are just about due.

"The goals will come for him, continued Groves. "He keeps getting the chances and that's the pleasing thing. Once one goal goes in, it'll be like the buses, two or three will come along. We've got every confidence in him. He's playing well and working hard and we feel he's improving all the time."

Of Town's opponents, Groves said: "It's going to be a tall order to shackle them, but that's the task we've got. Off the back of scoring three goals on Tuesday it will be nice to try and do something like that again."

The manager's only other injury doubts are Paul Raven and Stacy Coldicott. Both could be fit for the game and Alan Pouton is also back in contention after a precautionary x-ray gave him the all clear.
