Pair Turn Down Contracts

MICHAEL Boulding and Young Player of the Year Simon Ford have both turned down new contract offers today after the first firm deals to the pair were put down on the table by the Mariners.

Grimsby player-boss Paul Groves told Radio Humberside: "They've both turned down contracts so we're still in negotiations with them.

"I think Michael has made the decision to exercise his right as a Bosman, which he is entitled to do, and see what else is on offer. Simon can't do that as he is under 24, and we'll be making Simon another offer and see how we go on from there."

The pair were the first of a number of players out of contract this summer to be offered new deals, although with the short-term financial position of Town still unclear with the ITV Digital collapse still unresolved, Groves described Town's offers as "miles apart" from what the players are expecting.

Boulding earlier this week, when asked about a new contract, had said: "Grimsby have been great to me and why would I want to go anywhere else?"
