Danny Butterfield May Not Stay At Grimsby!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 01/06/2002

AARON Rae, Danny Butterfield's agent believes that Butterfield will not stay at Grimsby "The situation at Grimsby is up in the air. Danny is at the right age and can play in a variety of positions and that's bound to mean he is attractive for lots of clubs."

"Things are quiet at the moment but I believe that things will start moving next month."

Butterfield is currently on holiday in Mexico and on his return will be offered a new contract by the Mariners but it is expected that it will not be an increase on his current deal and his agent said that a number of clubs are interested in him and he will take the best deal he can get.

Former Grimsby manager Lennie Lawrence is looking to sign a goalkeeper to be number 2 to Neil Alexander saying: "There is no doubt whatsoever that Neil will start next season as first choice -he's earned that right."

Although Lawrence is still interested in signing Danny Coyne he feels he has little chance. "That's tempting, but would he want to drop a division and become a number two? It would be a big club in Cardiff, but he has been a regular in Division One."

Danny has previously said that dropping down was not for him and he was staying at Grimsby where the chairman said, he is not on list for sale but will listen to offers if any are made, as he would with any other player.
