Fishing For Talent Part 2

By: Dr Fishy
Date: 27/07/2002

DR FISHY has been down to the river bank with his fishing equipment, and has been casting his eye over potential Town signings. In the second of a new series, he has come up with a familiar face to Town fans.

Just for fun, try the link before you scroll down:

John Oster

John Oster Player name: John Oster

Club: Sunderland

Position: Winger

Squad Status: Rarely makes the substitutes' bench.

Background: Does not need introducing to Grimsby fans ... started his career here at such pace that was rapidly touted as the next Ryan Giggs. Was sold to balance the books, but has achieved little since.

Oster was a Groves target last spring, before injury prematurely ended his season.

Ratings:

Ability: 9/10. Definitely good enough for Division One.

Affordability: 4/10 Sunderland paid in the region of a million for him, so would be well out of Town’s price range. Or so you would think... Do Sunderland really need him?

Viability

  • permanent. Unlikely to want to drop a division, unless to a promotion candidate.
  • on loan. Possible ...the ideal chance for Johnny to relaunch his faltering career…
