Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Harry's Chin Wag - Week 4

By: Harry Ellis
Date: 03/11/2002

WHAT a crazy week of football we've seen! Probably one of the most unreal games anyone's ever seen at Blundell Park, and it has given the best publicity to the Mariners since their extra time win at Anfield last season.

Money is another subject on the minds of supporters. Grimsby Town are getting £111,000 from a two year deal with ITV - in return they will show highlights of all Football League games.

Loan deals are something that The Mariners will rely heavily on, and this has been made easier by the relaxation of the rules that clubs have to use in respect of loans. Now Town can have up to 10 loans a season, and play 5 loanees at any time for a competitive game.

Did any of you read about the fire in the hotel that three of our loanees were staying in while they are at Grimsby Town? The fire commenced in the early hours of Wednesday morning and Steve Kabba had to be knocked up by the hotel chef so he could leave the building.

In his own words "the reason why it took so long to wake me up is because I was knackered from the match". Blimey, what dedication he has but I wonder if giving him the contract he wants would he be so forthcoming.

Another point is the return of John Oster, after his moving around from club to club, so have Town any plans for him to stay longer than a month? In my opinion they should try and tie him down for as long as is possible, because with him playing in the Premiership for both Sunderland and Everton it would be beneficial for our players as well as him.

Jason Gavin, a Eire under-21 international, is another asset to the Town and would also be helpful to keep longer than a month, but that all depends on the injuries to the centre backs, and whether Middlesborough would let us keep him.

I wonder if with Paul Groves being injured it has opened his eyes up to how the team is playing without him being on the pitch, and can he see more now of how the team plays, and more importantly how he wants them to play too?
