Player Database: Marlon Broomes

Best remembered for his goal at Anfield that levelled the tie in extra-time. A defender loaned from Blackburn seemingly to give Lennie Lawrence’s options to rotate with Paul Groves and David Beharall. Eventually became first choice with Groves.

A strong player with pace to match but lacked quality positional play which often saw him exposed. Good going forward with the ball although often chose the wrong times to do so.

When his 3 month loan ended Town agreed a free transfer switch with Blackburn only for the player and club to fail on personal terms. Sheffield Wednesday then swooped in and gave Broomes a short term contract. Later the details of Broomes requests were released which left many shaking their head’s.

A promising start at Hillsborough wasn't enough to earn a new contract and it was off to Preston where he still is, albeit in the reserves.
