Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

We Snatched It says Groves!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 01/10/2003

PAUL Groves talking on the Blackpool game was delighted to gain a win despite Blackpool pouring on the pressure in the second half.

"We had to grind it out" he told Mariners Net. "We had to sustain a lot of pressure. It it will add to the confidence and it gets a good little run going. Credit to Blackpool, they have put us under a lot of pressure, and we've somewhat pinched it off them."

"We came away from Sheffield Wednesday somewhat disappointed, because I felt we created more of the chances and could have nicked it. Obviously we are delighted tonight though. There is (sic) going to be times when you have got to grind out results, that's what we've done there tonight."

On Crane he said; "I think that whenever the ball is in front of him I fancy him to score. We brought him here because he has all the attributes, it's a case of him putting them all together. You also have to remember that he's only 21, and he's probably only played about 50 or 60 games. He's slowly got better but he needs to keep his feet on the ground - we will make sure he does. He's put in a good performance there."

Given a warm welcome from the Blackpool fans he said; "It's unrecognisable from the Bloomfield Road I knew. The way that the fans acknowledged me was tremendous," he said. "When I came back last time they gave me a similar reception. It's nice that people remember you and that they give you that sort of reception. I wish Blackpool well - apart from when they play us. I thought they played some decent football tonight, and I wish them well."
