Just Rumours So Far! - Furneaux

IT comes as no surprise that Paul Groves wants Grimsby Town to hang on to Alan Pouton and Mick Boulding. I doubt also that any fan or supporter will be gladdened by the rumours regarding their departure. But this is football and clubs like Grimsby Town just cannot compete in the transfer market.
Although there has been no official contact between Gillingham and Town, it makes little difference to the situation. If another club also has an interest there is little that our club can do to prevent players leaving.
Paul Grovbes told the Grimsby Telegraph; "There has been no interest through me. It goes without saying that I don't want them to leave. They're our best players. But this football club has always been the same, and I don't think it will change. If clubs make offers for players then it has to look at those bids and decide on them on their merits.
"I think at this stage of the season with the transfer window being open there is going to be a lot of speculation. When you look at the squad, and people like Michael who has scored a goal in every other game since he came back, he is going to get linked with other clubs. He's in the goal scoring charts and he will get linked. That's only natural."
"When you look at Pouts, just back from injury, he's played in the first division and held his own there. He's another one that will naturally get linked with clubs."
Town Chairman Peter Furneaux also confirmed to the Grimsby Telegraph that the Club have not been in contact with Gillingham regarding the possible sale of Boulding and Pouton to the Gills.
"There's no point in talking about rumours, There's been no interest that I know of. He (Paul Scally) hasn't spoken to me about it. It's interesting that the players which the fans were saying were not good enough, are now, allegedly, commanding interest from first division clubs."
"There has been no offers for any of our players, but we are always pleased when interest is shown by these clubs perhaps these players are not as bad some people would have you believe."
"I understand that Paul Scally (The Gillingham Chairman) is in Las Vegas dealing with a matter. He sometimes rings when he comes, but he hasn't done so recently."
Scally, is now back from America but so far has not mentioned any Grimsby Town players so far.
