Scunthorpe Chairman's Statement On Laws!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 15/04/2004

Scunthorpe United's new club chairman Steve Wharton has explained his decision to retake control of the boardroom at Glanford Park and reinstate Brian Laws as manager

"Over the past few weeks it has become increasingly obvious that all at Scunthorpe United has not been well," said Wharton.

"It is no secret that I have been personally critical of the way the club has been going especially after the excellent order it was in when I handed it over six short months ago.

"We owe it to the supporters, shareholders, management and staff to be bold and take some positive decisions at this time.

"I am delighted with the response of the current management team Russ Wilcox, Peter Beagrie, Nigel Adkins and Paul Wilson, who believe something had to be done to give us the best possible chance of maintaining our league status and are fully supportive of the changes that are now being made.

"All the players have been informed and we are hugely encouraged with the very positive reactions from them all.

"We honestly believe after talking to all of the playing staff personally that they will be united and positive for the next four games and beyond.

"The re-appointment of Brian Laws as the manager, until at least the end of season, is fundamental to our plans and we are delighted that he has unreservedly accepted our offer.

"He can't wait to get back with the players, and as far as we are concerned there is no need to look any further than Brian.

"He has every attribute we need in a manager as well as an extra-ordinary passion for the club."
