Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Dr Fishy's Half-Term Report

By: Dr Fishy
Date: 26/10/2004

WE are approximately one third into the season: a rebuilding season, with a new manager and a new squad.

The playing staff has changed so radically over the last 18months that Jason Crowe can count himself as long serving and he's only been here since last August!

So where are we at?

Russell Slade has got the lads within 3 points of the play-offs, despite barely having enough fit players to fill the bench. He's sent the youngsters out for loan experience in the Conference, he brought in a new playing system.

The Mariners recently went 6 games unbeaten despite not having discovered a regular goalscorer. But let's face it; apart from Clive Mendonca, who has scored freely for the Mariners in recent times?

Some things never change.

It seems to Dr Fishy that we need a lucky break to kickstart our season.

But be positive; the away jinx appears broken. The kids may come back ready to challenge, and perhaps Russell will find the new Super Clive under his Christmas tree?!!?

Here is Dr Fishy's ratings card so far;

A Williams C competent, but inconsistent
Whittle B- not everyone's fave, but has done a job
Ramsden B+ just settling in then got injured, looking impressive
Forbes B looks solid, fast, good Rambo replacement
Gordon B+ a great find
Young C+ decent cover
Jones C hard to tell due to injuries
Crowe A- has added goals to his repertoire
Bull C- worryingly injury prone
Macca B+ has hit form and adjusted to new system
Fleming B- hardworking, but sometimes frustrating
Pinault B+ loses marks for loss of form, but key to side
Coldicott C average, not back to his best yet
Hockless C not really seen him
Sestanovich B infuriating, but handful on his day
Reddy C- great start, off the boil since
Parkinson B+ impressive workrate, lack of service to him
Mansaram C+ has tried hard, will he return from loan with confidence?
Cramb C only been seen in snippets really

Marcelle err......see Cramb, experienced but yet to really feature.
C Williams and Robinson what a waste of 2 loans
Daly early days yet, but he's at least scored a goal!

Unrated: Crane (inj), Wheeler, Hildred, Carchedi, Soames, Fraser, Heggarty, Downey
