Where will Grimsby be next season?

Between The Lines

CHAIRMAN John Fenty's comments on Mariners Net were quite informative. He certainly answered the question about the appointment of Russell Slade and gave a clue about the oncoming new season.

"Obviously with the position the club was in it was paramount that we got on with the task of finding a manager. We received many applications - upwards of 50 - but we whittled that down to 12 or 15 that were suitable for interview."

On players Slade brought in, he said;

"We were delighted with the calibre of some of the players that Russell was able to bring to the club during the close season and throughout the season as well. People like Dean Gordon, Terrell Forbes and Michael Reddy are good players for any club at our level, not just Grimsby Town."

"Anyone who saw those opening games of the season will agree that we deserved more from them, we just needed to be more ruthless in front of goal."

Russell has done a great job of halting the rot and brought a positive atmosphere to the place."

Perhaps those early season performances raised everyone's expectation levels a little too far."

(Few would agree that Slade brought a positive atmosphere to the club beyond the first few weeks of the season. Towards the end, some were suicidal!)

It was good to see Fenty come out and show his hand. Probably the best statement he has made so far and it answers many questions. The full statement can be seen on Mariners net.

It would be interesting to see what others thought of it and get their reaction. Let us know.
