Clint Marcelle | 2004/05 | 1 (4) | 0 goals |
In my eyes, the most pointless signing of the century. Former Trinidad & Tobago International Clint Marcelle - who once played Premiership football for Barnsley - was snapped up on a free transfer in August 2004, after spending the summer training with Grimsby.
Marcelle, who had already accepted a life in non league football after playing for Harrogate Town, Hucknall Town, Stevenage Borough and Scarborough between 2002 and 2004, was given a lifeline by Russell Slade.
Marcelle, who was signed by Slade whilst at Scarborough, was told that either him, Darren Mansaram or impressive trialist Abdou "Abdul" Tangara would get a contract at the club. We all knew Clint would get it, and the past-it joined on a short term deal.
Attempting to make the first team was far to hard for Clint, and after making 1 start in the LDV match with Carlisle, and also 3 sub apperances he was released in October.
Clint stayed a free agent until finding a new club in Conference club Tamworth in March 2005.
