Town Equal Club Record

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/09/2005

THE Mariners equalled another club record on Saturday following their 1-1 draw with Boston, namely the record number of successive unbeaten away games.

Grimsby have now gone unbeaten for eight consecutive away games just three times in their history: 1956 under Allenby Chilton (pictured), 1960 under his successor Tim Ward, and 2005 under Russell Slade. The Mariners just need a point next Saturday against Shrewsbury at Gay Meadow to eclipse the record set by Grimsby's first player-manager Allenby Chilton.

Grimsby had earlier set a record for recording six straight wins on their travels, which had stood since Bill Shankley was Town manager in the 1950's.
