GRIMSBY have several players rated doubtful for the big clash with Newcastle at Blundell Park. Congolese international midfielder Jean-Paul Kalala is struggling with a back injury, and both Tom Newey's (dead leg) and Andy Parkinson's (shin splints) fitness is also a problem.

None of the trio participated in Monday's training session.

On the plus side left back Gary Croft could return after missing the last four matches with a knee injury, although that is by no means certain.

Newcastle could be without both Scott Parker and Stephen Carr for the Carling Cup clash at Blundell Park on Wednesday.

Parker (thigh) and Carr (groin) were both injured suffered during Sunday's s 3-2 derby win over Sunderland. Star striker Michael Owen missed the Sunderland clash with a hamstring strain and is still rated doubtful for the Carling Cup clash.
