Slade Signs For Yeovil

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 07/06/2006

RUSSELL Slade was appointed the new manager of Yeovil FC today. This was no surprise as it had been on the cards for the last two weeks. Both Slade and Chairman John Fry spoke about the appointment.

John Fry said; "I'm relieved to have finally signed up Russell as it has been a long wait for the supporters and everybody connected with the club."

"These things are never straight forward and it was a case of finding the right man to fit the requirements of the club. In Russell I know we have found the right man."

Slade has signed a three year contract with the club and said; "When it became clear I was leaving Grimsby negotiations have moved on very rapidly and I now find myself manager of Yeovil Town."

"It is a fantastic opportunity for me as I think Yeovil are a very progressive club. They are going through a period of transition and I am really looking forward to the challenges that are ahead."

"It is nothing new for me to be working with an existing number two as I had that situation when I went to Grimsby (with) Graham Rodger. I will be leaning on Steve Thompson heavily during my early weeks at Yeovil Town as he obviously knows the way things are done at Yeovil and will be a real asset for me in the early days."

"Getting new players in will be our main priority and again that is nothing new to me as I only had four professionals when I started at Grimsby."
